CBRT Project Set to Revolutionize Cebu City's Economy and Spark Investor Interest
The Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (CBRT) project is on track to revolutionize Cebu City's economic landscape. This public transportation initiative is tailored to meet the needs of Cebuanos, with over 70% relying on public transport for daily travel.
The project encompasses 13.18 kilometers (km) of segregated lanes with 17 stations, one depot, and one trunk terminal, connecting South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City’s south district to the IT Park in the north of the city. Additionally, it includes a 22.1 km Feeder Line System that will run over mixed traffic, featuring two feeder terminals. The project, which traverses the cities of Cebu and Talisay and other towns of Cebu Province, is divided into three phases and will incorporate a total of 76 bus stops across the province.
On the other hand, the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit, its cost and its financing source is provided by World Bank, French Development Agency and the Philippine Government. The amount of total budget that has been allowed by the NEDA (National Economic Development Authority) for the three packages of the CBRT is pegged at P 16. 307 billion.
The CBRT's implementation is expected to boost economic productivity by streamlining the movement of goods and services. By significantly reducing travel time and ensuring fair access to public transport, the project is set to enhance the overall commuting experience for residents. In its inaugural year, CBRT is anticipated to cater to around 60,000 commuters daily, with the capacity expected to reach 160,000 passengers once fully operational. This surge in transportation capacity is predicted to generate employment opportunities and invigorate local businesses.
