Cebu BRT Phase 1 Begins September 2025

After nearly two decades in development, the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is finally set to begin operations. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed that Phase 1 test runs will start in one month, marking a major milestone for the ₱17-billion mass transit project.
During a press briefing on July 23, Dizon announced that three bus stations under Cebu BRT Phase 1 will be activated for the pilot run, giving Cebu City residents their first experience with the long-awaited BRT system.
The Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will launch its initial 13-kilometer route, stretching from the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) to the Cebu Provincial Capitol. While final design adjustments—including the Capitol station—are still underway, government officials have approved a partial opening to expedite the project. Cebu BRT Package 1 (2.38 km from South Bus Terminal to Capitol) is now 90% complete.
For the September pilot run, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will repurpose CiBus units—originally introduced in 2020 as a precursor to the BRT system. Currently, 20 CiBus vehicles are operational, but Transportation Undersecretary Steve Pastor confirmed plans to deploy additional buses to meet passenger demand.
