Free internet program budget surges to P7.5 billion

For 2025, the General Appropriations Act mandates the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to establish internet connectivity in public schools located in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas through the Free Public Internet Access Program (FPIAP). Additionally, the DICT is assigned to set up similar internet facilities in resettlement communities managed by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.

That is why, the government has significantly increased the budget for the free internet program to P7.5 billion, aiming to expand digital access across the Philippines, particularly in remote and underserved areas. This boost in funding will enhance internet speeds, extend coverage, and ensure sustainability, enabling more Filipinos to benefit from reliable internet connectivity. The program targets key public spaces such as schools, government offices, and markets, helping bridge the digital divide and offering new opportunities for online education, remote work, and access to essential services.

This initiative is part of the country’s broader vision to foster digital inclusion and support technological literacy, ensuring that citizens in rural regions can fully participate in the digital economy. By tripling the budget, the government is demonstrating a strong commitment to digital transformation, aiming to create a more connected and empowered nation that can meet the demands of an increasingly digital world.
