Cebu City Unveils Ambitious ₱33B Investment Plan for 2025

Cebu City is set to embark on an ambitious journey towards infrastructural and social advancement with a proposed P33 billion Annual Investment Plan (AIP) for 2025. The investment focuses on various sectors, particularly infrastructure and social services, and is designed to foster economic growth, enhance connectivity, and improve the overall business environment.

Flood Management and Infrastructure Improvements

In addition, a substantial budget of P3.2 billion has been earmarked under economic services to support essential infrastructure projects. This funding will facilitate the procurement of heavy equipment for river and creek dredging, as well as tools for maintaining drainage systems and bridges, ensuring safer and more reliable transportation.
One of the primary focuses of the investment plan is flood control, a pressing concern for the city. Allocating P2 billion specifically for this purpose, the plan includes the construction of retention tanks and the installation of gabions and mini dams in upland areas to mitigate runoff and improve drainage. This initiative is crucial for flood-prone communities, aiming to alleviate long-standing issues of flooding during heavy rainfalls.

Social Services and Community Development

Beyond infrastructural enhancements, the investment plan seeks to bolster social services. This funding will support various programs, including health services. Furthermore, the plan also encompasses provisions for vulnerable populations. A significant portion is designated for social services that cater to senior citizens and persons with disabilities, thereby reinforcing the city's commitment to inclusivity.

Environmental Sustainability Initiatives

The investment plan is also aligned with environmental sustainability goals, incorporating initiatives that focus on climate change action. A local climate change action plan, part of this framework, is expected to include projects that enhance ecological resilience while promoting social housing units for displaced residents. By fostering a strong connection between development and environmental responsibility, Cebu City aims to lead the way in sustainable urban planning for the future.

The Cebu City's investment plan for 2025 reflects a comprehensive approach to addressing the multifaceted challenges the city faces. With a clear focus on infrastructure improvement, social welfare, and environmental sustainability, this initiative aims to pave the way for a more resilient and inclusive future for all residents.
